budgiebear asked: Hi, I saw your post with the guide to chinese names in ATLA and LOK, and was wondering if you knew any place that I could watch the chinese dubbed versions of either show, hopefully with Simplified Chinese subs (but if there are no subs it's okay). (I did see the link you posted but it just redirects back here) I checked Baidu and could only find the english dub which wouldn't even play for some reason (I'm in the US). Thank you! :)

Where to watch ATLA in Chinese:

A lot of that is region coded and won’t work outside of China/Asia.

This is actually dubbed in Chinese, at least the episode that I checked, but I cannot gurantee that it will work for you.

The Dragon Bird Korra Befriends is Neither a Phoenix nor a Dragon.

It is , as it’s name says, a combination of both.

As I pointed out in the pictures, the Dragon Bird has features of both Dragon and Phoenix.

Dragons have:

The horns of a deer.
The head of a crocodile.
A demon’s eyes.
The neck of a snake.
A hawk’s claws.
The palms of a tiger.
A cow’s ears.

A Phoenix has

Historically:
the beak of a rooster,
the face of a swallow,
the forehead of a fowl,
the neck of a snake,
the breast of a goose,
the back of a tortoise,
the hindquarters of a stag and the tail of a fish.
Or
Today:
the head of a golden pheasant,
the body of a mandarin duck,
the tail of a peacock,
the legs of a crane,
the mouth of a parrot,
and the wings of a swallow.

I immediately saw the reference and I've yet to see anyone else point it out. It's a reference to a famous series of photographs taken to test the myth that while running all four legs of a horse come off of the ground. I would love to see a post about it! Aaaah thank you so much! I’ve been trying to find that one for ages. I vaguely remember seeing the original years ago but for some reason I had the hardest time finding it (mainly because I could not remember the name and the specific details) :D I’ll make a post about that later.
